July The July talk by David Wharton about his experiences in different parts of the world with his Yorkshire coble was accompanied by photographs and anecdotes of his travels. He showed the stages of the construction of a coble and we are now much more aware of the structure and capabilities if this sturdy little boat which has been such an important part of Whitby's heritage.

August A large audience attended the photoslide presentation by Robin Dale at the August meeting of the Society. We were treated to some very artistic photographs taken along the beaches from Hartlepool all the way to Whitby. These were accompanied by a sound track of sounds of the sea, seagulls crying, voices and music - some of which had been especially composed to fit the scenes portrayed. The next meeting on 20th September at 7.15 at the Museum will be a talk by John Gaskarth on 'Plastic Recycling Explained'. John Gaskarth runs a business near Scarborough which takes scrap plastic materials, processes them and turns the resulting mixture into useful products. Some of us visited the plant a few years ago and found the process fascinating. All welcome. Members £1, non-members £2. hitby. Everyone welcome. Entry £2.
