Becoming a member of the Whitby Civic Society
To become a member of Whitby Civic Society you do not have to be a resident but simply someone who loves Whitby and wants to preserve its beauty and learn more about its history.
The Society offers a monthly talk on matters relating to Whitby. Members pay just half of the cost of entrance.
The Society has an executive committee of around a dozen members, including the officers, who meet monthly to discuss what the society is doing. The workload of the society is spread among members of the committee with individuals assuming responsibility for particular duties. These include checking on planning applications, arranging publicity for society events, beach cleans, guiding walks as well as several other things. We have also several members who prefer not to be members of the committee but give their time to help us. Members can be co-opted to join the committee or can offer their help in other ways.
