Abbeville: "The Little Yellow Cottage"

Abbeville better known as “The Little Yellow Cottage” is located on the East Side of Whitby at 37a, Church Street, Whitby, YO22 4AE.

She is a Grade II listed building overlooking the harbour and has been lovingly restored from a completely derelict and uninhabitable state to the beautiful building that she is now. It took over three years but through her dedicated owner this journey was taken together with them sharing stories and secrets along the way. George will open the wonderfully replicated front door of Abbeville for us on the 20th September and will reveal some of the secrets he uncovered along their journey.

Abbeville was probably built around 1770, although a window of twenty years, either way, would probably be prudent. Some of her walls are hand made bricks and both mortar and rendering (plaster) are lime-based, some of it mixed with animal hair. Her floors, beams and supports are mostly made from wood although some alien materials have been added over the years; these have been replaced where possible to more fitting alternatives allowing her to continue to watch over the harbour for years to come.

Her doors on Church Street will be open 10.00 till 16.00.
