Pannett House, located on Normanby Terrace in Whitby, has a rich history as the former residence of Robert Elliott Pannett, a prominent local benefactor. Built in 1860, it retains its Victorian charm and features, while now operating as a bed and breakfast. Pannett, who also funded Pannett Park and the Art Gallery in Whitby, lived in the house until his death in 1920. Mr Pannett also bequeathed The Victoria Spa Well to the people of Whitby which is also opening its doors for Heritage Open Day 2025.
The current owners very kindly allowed us access to the home of Alderman Robert Elliott Pannett, Whitby's greatest benefactor on Saturday 20th September. Most notably to the bathroom but there are also original tiles in the main entrance hall, original coving throughout the property and moulding on the ceiling with fascinating remnants of paint which give a unique insight into the character of Mr Pannett.
Pannett House is located at 14 Normanby Terrace, Whitby and will be open 10.30 until 1400.
